He focuses primarily on research, does some teaching, and sees patients. His areas of expertise are Craniofacial Genetics, Molecular Genetics, and Medical Genetics. Some key areas of research include Cephalogenetics, Neurogenetics, Genetics of Head and Neck Syndromes, and Molecular Oncology. Thomas Jefferson is one of Dr. Yapijakis’ heros; hea admires him for creating the first public university and for his work in science and education. When he's not working, Christos enjoys reading philosophy, attending theatre and musicals, and spending quality time with family and friends. Dr. Yapijakis received his PhD in Human Molecular Genetics from University of Athens in 1993, and a Master of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1988. In addition, he completed a Diploma in Dental Medicine at University of Athens School of Health Sciences in 1998, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biology at University of Athens School of Basic Sciences in 1985. Dr. Yapijakis is part of the European Society of Human Genetics, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Federation of American Scientists, International Association of Greek Neuroscientists, and Biopolitics International Organization, as well as the Greek Neurological Society, the Hellenic Association of Medical Geneticists, the Greek Society of Medical Molecular Biologists, and the Panhellenic Union of Biologists/Bioscientists. Early on in his career, he spent a year focusing on Recombinant DNA technology during that era of the 80's. Dr. Yapijakis would like to do some groundbreaking research both in basic and applied research, and he is keen to network professionally and gain a wider perspective in his field.
