Biography

Sherry DeBoer is the Executive Director of South Dakota Humanities Council. She has been involved in nonprofits for over 40 years. In her present position, she celebrates literature, promotes civil conversation and tells the stories that define the state. She is also involved in programs celebrating literature, and she in charge of a statewide Festival of Books, and Young Readers Festival. Sherry is involved with One Book, a South Dakota program, where one book is selected for everyone in the state to read and they discuss the book with other organizations. She is a grant writer and a reviewer of grants. She speaks at presentations and lectures about the Humanities Council, the Book Festival, and Humanities Will, which introduces the local community to the Humanities Council. Sherry is involved with Big Read, a program with the National Endowment for the Arts, where she receives funding. She donates to many cultural organizations, and attributes her success to her ability to build resources towards a common goal and her good people skills. Her goals are to launch the silent phase of a large endowment expansion, as well as to consulting work in the nonprofit world.
