Derek Alman received his master’s degree with Distinction in Enterprise management in 2007 from Durham University. He is currently the Estates Director and Head of Capital Development for the Gibraltar Ministry of Education. He has been in the Government Service for over 33 years having previously spent 23 years at the Gibraltar Health Authority as Director of Estates & Clinical Engineering. Derek's main role for the Ministry is overseeing the development of the Client Brief for 8 new schools. The development program consists of 2 secondary schools and 4 primary schools a Special School and a College. He is located in Gibraltar. Derek feels the key to success has been hard work, skill, technique and passion for his career. His greatest professional accomplishment was been part of the Client Project Team responsible for commissioning the new General Hospital in Gibraltar. Derek has also been responsible for a number of Key Projects within the Health Authority, including a recently commissioned Day Surgery Suite and an Oncology Unit as well as various other initiatives such as, New Endoscopy suite, Expansion of Accident & Emergency Unit and a New CT Scanner Suite. Derek is a keen Golfer currently playing of 8.7 hcp. He is an avid soccer fan, amateur footballer and has been the President of Lincoln Red Imps FC from 2013 to 2016. During this period Lincoln Red Imps FC first participated in the UEFA Champions League qualifying stages culminating with a local 1-0 win over Celtic FC.
