Tim Edens has been in the aviation industry for more than thirty years. He has been in his current position for two years. He retired from the Army as a Brigadier General in 2014. On an average day, Tim reviews in place contracts and future opportunities for growth in the Federal sector, with focus and expertise in aviation operations, training, maintenance/sustainment, simulations and safety. Tim was in the military for thirty three years. He has a bachelor’s degree in engineering with a concentration in political science and national security from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY. He also has a master’s degree in strategic studies from the Army War College. Tim speaks a little German and is a lifetime member of the Big Red One Society. He is also a member of the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA), the Association of the US Army (AUSA) and the Knights of Columbus. He chairs a local non-profit, The Friends of Fort Rucker and was appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Alabama to the state's Joint Military Stability Commission. Tim is a regular attendee of the Aviation of Senior Leader forum held annually at Fort Rucker and was recently asked to speak at Troy University's Graduation. His course writing assignment for the Aviation Officer Advanced Course as a young Aviation officer, "Maintenance Charts that Work" was selected for publication in Aviation Digest in 1986. His father, not a career military man, but drafted for the Korean War always spoke with respect and admiration for the Army and convinced Tim to consider service as a career. Tim saw what the Army did for his father and he decided to pursue an appointment to one of the Service Academies and a career as a commissioned officer. Graduating from USMA in 1981, he completed armor officer training at Fort Knox, KY and Army flight school at Fort Rucker, AL and was assigned to 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, KS. While stationed there, he met and married Leslie Brassard. It was while stationed in Germany in 1988 - 1990 as an Air Cavalry Troop Commander, that he decided the Army was his life's calling. The subsequent 24 years, 13 more duty stations and two combat tours facilitated professional growth, leadership experience in operations, logistics and risk management culminating with duties as the Commanding General of the Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center and Director of Army Safety. AECOM offered him the opportunity to stay connected to the Army, Army Aviation as well as DoD and work for a global company, renowned for high ethical standards and delivering quality services to customers in both the public and private sectors. In the next three to five years, Tim plans to continue working for AECOM. He anticipates establishing a consulting company leveraging his leadership experience, passion for safety and operational risk management to help organizations drive and sustain cultural change. His key to success is his focus on team work and people to get the mission accomplished. Personally, his greatest professional accomplishment was as an aviation brigade commander: deploying and leading 3500 Soldiers, more than 130 aircraft flying over 100,000 combat flying hours in support of ground combat operations across the Iraq theater of operations for 15 months without a single fatality, major injury or loss of equipment to combat or major accident. Tim is interested in networking with others in the International Alumni Association. His hobbies are reading, hiking, watching football and fishing. He also desires to become more involved in the Wounded Warrior Program.
