Tone Skårdal Tobiasson is a seasoned journalist, editor and author of several books, the latest a rather original take on research results: A knitting book about Norwegian wool. The previous book she co-wrote also featured wool, with a preface written by HRH the Prince of Wales. Tone's love for journalism was developed at a young age, and her fascination for the field led her to pursue schooling in the United States. Tone began her academic career at the University of Denver, but after one year transferred and completed a BA in Journalism from Stanford University.
After several years in magazine publishing, Tone left to start her own company and has since worked with the environmental and social issues in the textile industry. Currently, as the head of NICE (Nordic Initiative Clean & Ethical), Tone is involved with several research projects, the largest one right now being on local value enhancement for wool in Norway, which is named for Norwegian wool’s exceptional crimp, namely KRUS. Tone lectures, writes and teaches, using her prowess to educate people on sustainable choices locally in Norway and abroad. Being able to travel and garner an international audience in novel approaches to sustainable fashion is seen to be Tone's greatest achievement. Recently she has been asked to participate in cooperative efforts in Sweden, Poland and Uzbekistan to develop renewal of local wool value chains and product development. Tone hopes to take advantage of all of the benefits that come along with being a member of the International Alumni Association. She looks forward to networking and collaborating with other professionals.
As a sought-after lecturer, she has spoken in Cape Town, Sydney, St. Petersburg, Lima, Shanghai, Hong Kong, New York and Paris – to name a few. She is a Board member for the Norwegian chapter for the Stanford Alumni Association, and participates when she can in Denver Alumni events. She is very active on social media. She resides in Oslo, Norway.
