Dr. Hazel Kathleen White-Williams is an accomplished nurse and educator with over 30 years of experience in nursing education, research and lecturing. Currently, she is a part-time Professor of Nursing in The Chang School at Ryerson University, and a Graduate Studies Teaching Associate at University of New Brunswick.
At the end of 2016, Kathleen retired as Professor at Humber College, and as Head of Research & Scholarship, in the School of Health Sciences at Humber College ITAL. In her role at Ryerson, Kathleen teaches, lectures, and mentors both faculty and students. Her area of expertise is Qualitative Research and Leadership, and she is also a mentor for student teachers.
Kathleen graduated with a PhD in Nursing from University of Alberta in 2012, a Master of Science in Nursing from University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ryerson University. She selected some of Canada's most prestigious educational institutions because of their strong academic nursing programs, sterling reputations, and dynamic research environments.
Originally, Kathleen was inspired to get involved in nursing because of exposure to a serious illness and a death in her family, and her career evolved naturally. She is involved with many organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, STTI Lambda Pi-At Large Chapter, STTI Mu Sigma Chapter, Edmonton, the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, the College Of Nurses Of Ontario (CNO), and Canadian Nursing Association.
Going forward, Kathleen will continue her mentorship as well as part-time lecturing and teaching, and serving as a mentor for new faculty. She is keen to network on an international basis, increase her exposure, and connect with other professionals in her field. She says the key to her success is her process of always wanting to know more, and realizing that the more she knows she doesn't know allows her to help people. Indeed, it is Kathleen's greatest passion to help students make sure they get good mentorship and coaching.
Her work has not gone unrecognized, and she has been honored with the Leadership Award from the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, the Nursing Education Academic Mentorship Award from Humber College, and several research awards, including from her chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. She has done regular public speaking and presented at the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing Education Conference for research she conducted with 3 others.
When she's not working, Kathleen is a voracious reader, enjoys walking and spending time with her family. She resides in Ontario, Canada.
