Dr. Marco Brito-Arias is a Full Professor of Chemical Science at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional in Mexico, where he has taught and focused his research in Pharmaceutical Chemistry since 1995. With over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors, he has written or contributed to more than 60 publications, including 4 books.

Most recently, Marco wrote "Synthesis and Characterization of Glycosides," Second edition, an overview and analysis on the  how to prepare the main types of glycosides with regard to  antiviral or antineoplastic drugs, enzymatic detection, plant biotechnology, and genetics.

After earning a degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas IPN in 1984, Marco went on to complete a Doctor of Chemical Sciences in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Ghent in Belgium. Relocating to the United States, he received a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley. 

Marco found his chosen profession evolved as a natural course for him, based on lifelong interests in education, research, health, food, and the environment. He is a dedicated teacher, and enjoys working with students and hosting a dynamic classroom and lecture hall. Prior to joining the faculty at IPN, he served as Research Associate for Instituto de Química Unam, and an Industrial Pharmaceutical Engineer for Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas.

Marco credits his success to a passion for what he does, and having had the opportunity to work with and learn from excellent mentors. In addition to his lifetime membership in the IAA, Marco is a member of the Mexican Academia of Science Association, the National Research System and sits on the editorial committee of the Annals of Reviews and Research. He resides in Mexico City, and speaks fluent English and Spanish. Outside of his professional endeavors, Marco enjoys travel, cycling, and is an avid reader.
