Priscilla Garrido is the founder and Academic Director of New Horizons Bilingual School, a prestigious accredited international learning institution reflective of 35 different countries and serving a student body represented by more than 30 nationalities. With over 40 years of experience in academia and educational management, Priscilla oversees operations for the School, which educates students pre-K through 12th grade and is known for its particular excellence in preparing students for higher education and careers in STEM.
Having grown up in Virginia, Priscilla headed west to attend Stanford University, where she majored in Modern European Languages and Linguistics. Upon graduation, she joined the Peace Corps, which led her to the Dominican Republic, where she ultimately settled. When the time came for her to enroll her own children in school, she discovered limited opportunities for students on the island to receive a high quality bilingual education; thus the concept for New Horizons was born.
Priscilla established New Horizons in 1977, and has seen it grown too become a nationally recognized institution which serves more than 1500 students. The School is also accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
She also worked as Dean of Foreign languages at UNAPEC, where she remains a member today. Additionally, she is affiliated with Acción Empresarial por la Educación (EDUCA), the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), the World Wildlife Fund, together with many other environmental organizations, and was a Founding member of the Smithsonian Museum of Native Americans.
Looking ahead, Priscilla plans to start publishing on topics of educational leadership and bilingual education. She speaks English and Spanish, and outside of her professional endeavors enjoys travel, reading, and spending time with her family.
