William Wayne Churchill is a retired elementary teacher with a heart of gold. After dedicating 32 years to teaching children as an elementary school teacher, special education teacher for middle school, and also serving as an Assistant Principal and Acting Principal, he now dedicates his time to his community. He volunteers with St. Vincent De Paul, an organization with stores, warehouses and other facilities that take donated clothes and home goods to give them to those in need. He also works to raise funds to help Our Lady of Guadalupe, Hotel Dieu, and serves as Neighbourhood Watch Block Captain.
William says his parents and the Brazilian priest that ran his high school, Assumption High School, inspired him to teach because his love of children and effectiveness with them shone early in his life. His parents instilled in him his dedication to service and his spirit of giving. He now commits his time to volunteering with several agencies who serves the vulnerable and those in need. He also credits his passion for helping to his Cree culture.
He holds a Masters in History from University of Windsor, and a Bachelors in Psychology and Education, both from University of Windsor. He was awarded the Achievement Award from University of Windsor Sports Hall of Fame, where he was a member of the 1975 Lancer football team and inducted into the University's Hall of Fame. He played defensive tackle for the team and was later drafted and signed by a pro team. William intends to continue his volunteer work with all three agencies in the next few years. He says he has been fortunate and one key to this is keeping a positive attitude. He considers his greatest professional achievement the children he taught. He enjoys travel, reading, and writing in his spare time and resides in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
